Description
Day 1 - Arrival in the city of Lisbon
In the early morning, you will have time to explore the center of Lisbon, as well as some of the city's characteristic monuments (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, Torre de Belém and the famous Pastéis de Belém). You will then take the train to Funcheira station, where a transfer will be waiting for you to take you to Porto Covo. Briefing with an A2Z representative who will provide you with all the necessary documentation to start your trip. If you still have time, take the chance to visit this fishing village, characterised by the beautiful rugged and hidden beaches that are found along the coast. Check-in and overnight in Porto Covo.
Day 2 - Pedestrian Trail 1: Porto Covo – Vila Nova de Milfontes (20 km / 12 mi)
This is the beaches stage, in which you will walk along the extensive sandy beaches of Ilha do Pessegueiro, Aivados and Malhão and discover small deserted coves that will surprise you. It is, however, a tiring route, given its length and the always sandy floor. It is absolutely fantastic the diversity of forms that the beaches take on just this stage. Beaches protected by ancient, dark rocks that gloriously resist erosion, forming cliffs and islets (which the locals call palheirões). Check-in and overnight in Vila Nova de Milfontes.
Day 03 - Pedestrian Route 2: Vila Nova de Milfontes – Almograve (15 km / 9 mi)
On this day you will wash your soul with breathtaking views over Vila Nova de Milfontes and the Mira river, which here meets the Atlantic, in a short and accessible day's walk so that you can fully enjoy the region. Crossing the bridge over the river, in Vila Nova de Milfontes, you can admire it's mouth, the village and the slopes covered with Mediterranean scrub. These produce abundant berries, which attract birds and small mammals. However, you can appreciate some signs of human presence, such as artisanal fishing, or the chipped stone factories that emerge under the sand of the dunes, traces of man from the stone age. Check-in and overnight in Almograve.
Day 04 - Pedestrian Route 3: Almograve – Zambujeira do Mar (22 km / 13 mi)
Along this stage you will see artisanal fishing ports, reddish dunes, the scent of pine forests and the unique spectacle of the storks that nest on the cliffs, making the walk a true balm for the senses. Along the coast you will find signs of paleoclimates, which are past climates that were “written” in the rocks. Notice the consolidated dunes, that is, old dunes where the sand has already become rock. They formed when the sea was more than 100 meters below the current level, which means that the beach was more than 60 km away to the west.Check-in and overnight in Zambujeira do Mar.
Day 05 - Zambujeira do Mar (free day)
On this day, you'll have time to rest from the hike you've done so far and enjoy the beautiful beaches of Zambujeira do Mar. Overnight in Zambujeira do Mar.
Day 06 - Pedestrian Route 4: Zambujeira do Mar – Odeceixe (18 km / 11 mi)
The beaches of Alteirinhos, Carvalhal, Machados and Amália open the way to Azenha do Mar, where you will find a natural fishing port and, finally, one of the most impressive views in the whole territory, the beach of Odeceixe seen from the majestic Ponta em Branco. Check-in and overnight in Odeceixe.
Day 07
Option 1 – Pedestrian Route 5: Praia de Odeceixe Circuit (10 km / 6 mi)
The last day of the hike is the shortest, but it collides with an idyllic circuit on the Fisherman's Trail: the Praia de Odeceixe circuit.
The Seixe stream and the town's beach are strong arguments for staying another night in Odeceixe, taking the opportunity to take this route that will take you to the coastline along fishermen's trails. It is also worth appreciating the shapes that the erosion of the sea carves into the rocks of the cliffs. Overnight in Odeceixe.
Option 2 – Praia de Odeceixe (free day)
Option 2 – Odeceixe Beach (free day) Take the opportunity to rest and enjoy Odeceixe Beach. You can request (in advance) a transfer to make the route hotel-beach and beach-hotel. Overnight in Odeceixe.
Dia 08 - Check-out.
Transfer option to Santa-Sabóia station, where you can take the train to Lisbon or the Algarve.
