"This theatre performance evokes the memory and history of student António José Ribeiro Santos, murdered by an undercover agent of the Portuguese political police (PIDE), at a meeting at ISCEF (nowadays, Institute of Economic and Financial Sciences, ISEG), in Lisbon, in 1972. The murder was not reported on television, and the regime would call it an accident. What we have today, in addition to the testimonies of those who were with Ribeiro Santos at that time, and those who participated in his funeral, is a set of pamphlets calling for the joint struggle of students and associations.
“Down with Fascist Terror”, read one of these pamphlets, which we discovered in a box full of memoirs, in 2011. This performance is about that and, moreover, it's about how the students were uniting in that final phase of Marcello Caetano's regime, to detonate it from within and against a war they didn't want to fight. Because it wasn't their war.
