Herdade da Maceira

Located in the heart of the hills, between the village of S. Luís and the village of Odemira, Herdade da Maceira is a accommodation that has been reborn using “taipa”, a traditional rammed earth construction technique.

The hosts, Tiago and Gisela, are bankers who left northern Portugal looking for a new life in the Alentejo. With their own hands, they rebuilt every corner of Herdade da Maceira, creating a retreat that offers visitors an experience of tranquility, disconnection, and contact with nature.

Herdade da Maceira offers two suites and a family tiny house, combining the rustic charm of the past with modern comforts. Additionally, guests can sleep under the stars of Alentejo sky in a glamping tent, which provides a luxury camping experience for days of relaxation in nature.

During the day, the outdoor pool (tank) complements a variety of activities available on this 31-hectare property, such as nature coaching and hypnotherapy.

Hiking and cycling are also highlights, with trails within the estate itself and, of course, along the Rota Vicentina, including the S. Luís » Odemira stage of the Historical Way, which allows a detour to the mythical Pego das Pias, the Circular Routes “S. Luís Gardens” and “Troviscais to Mira,” the Long Distance MTB Trail (for MTB and also for gravel bikes), or the a lot of MTB routes in the surroundings.

More than just accommodation, Herdade da Maceira is a place of reunion through its Retreat Center, which hosts a variety of events, workshops and holistic therapies.

And, of course, the experience wouldn't be complete without the gastronomy. In addition to the traditional breakfast with local products, guests can savor typical regional dishes such as fish rice with shrimp, wild boar stew, migas with Alentejo-style pork, and chickpeas with greens.
