This tour reveals a vegetable garden, an apiary, a village, the seafront near Sagres and a hut made of what the sea and land had to offer. Nicolau, a man who works the land and the sea, is our guide for this journey and shares his knowledge about bees, storks, and honey that glides into the ocean.

Description

Together with Nicolau, a landscape architect, farmer, beekeeper, transhumant shepherd, fisherman and seafood gatherer, we visit his vegetable garden – a place of nature based on a deep knowledge about the life of plants, animals and minerals, partly passed by the older men and women of the villages that surround this place. We see the stones, the straw and the cyclical nature of life on the earth. We walk along the paths surrounded by the native vegetation and visit the village of Hortas do Tabual. Next, the tour takes us to Ingrin – a small fishing beach, with a name coming from the word “angra” - creek. Walking along the ocean horizon line and cliffs, we see the storks' nests, hear the black bees that inhabit the ridges and feel the union between the land and the sea. At a hut, built by Nicolau's own hands, and carved over months and months so that each stone and each piece of sea-washed wood would eventually find its proper place, a traditional meal is served.

Before the return, there is an opportunity to explore one of the many megalithic limestone monuments that exist in this region – the menhir of Padrão, dating back to the 4th millennium BC.
