Concert Spirituel was the name of one of the first public concert series to exist as we know it today. The concerts began in Paris in 1725, and lasted until 1790. Later, concerts or concert series of the same name also took place in Vienna and London. Designed to provide entertainment and fun during the Easter fortnight and religious holidays, when major concert halls such as the Paris Opera, the Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise and the Com\u00e9die-Italienne were closed, the program featured a mix of sacred sacred music coral works from the liturgical calendar with extraordinary instrumental virtuosic pieces.
