Núcleo de Santa Clara-A-Velha

31

Barragem

12 KM

A relatively easy route with a round trip until near to the beach at Santa Clara Reservoir.Although short, the course provides an interesting variety of scenery, passing by several small farms, small oak groves, dense forests and interesting flora. It visits the reservoir, passes the dam wall in both directions and arrives at the fresh water beach where you turn around. Enjoy a refreshing dip there!Right at the end of the first kilometre the route passes along the famous D. Maria bridge, better known as the Roman Bridge, because it is next to an ancient and important Roman road.Note that the route includes about 8 km of asphalt due to the absence of viable alternatives on earth roads. Although not a busy road, caution is recommended. The route has its only big difficulty at 2.8 km, just after the Mira River crossing, a long climb of 1.7 km, almost always on asphalt and with an average slope of 7%.It has no real single track.

Important Advice

The route runs along and crosses some streets in the centre of Santa Clara-a-Velha. The rest of the course takes place on paths, roads and lanes open to traffic. Caution is recommended.

Part of the route coincides with a Circular Route of the Rota Vincentina, so it is very likely that you will encounter walkers.

The stream crossing can be occasionally unviable or dangerous after heavy rainfall or discharge from the reservoir.
